Our latest analyses
See the whole blog →How to read YouTube trends on TrendTube
YouTube publishes its trends country by country, in an interface that lets you neither compare, nor look back in time, nor understand why a video is there. TrendTube exists to fill exactly those three gaps: we collect the official rankings of seventy-two countries, we keep them, and we analyze them.
Our collection method
Our rankings come from the official YouTube API, the most popular videos section, queried daily for each country we cover. We pull the top fifty positions per country, with the title, channel, view count, duration and category, then we archive every reading across seven days. That archiving is what lets us calculate what YouTube never displays: how many countries a video is trending in simultaneously, how long it has held its place, and whether it is climbing or fading. A video present in forty countries has nothing in common with one dominating a single market, and that difference is visible nowhere else.
Why a video goes trending
Our data surfaces four broad families. Movie trailers, exploding within hours across dozens of countries thanks to synchronized worldwide drops. Music videos, dominated by K-pop and rap, carried by organized fan communities coordinating their viewing from the first minute. Creator content, where personality matters more than subject, and which often stays confined to one language zone. And finally live events, esports first among them, producing considerable but highly localized audience spikes. Recognizing which family a video belongs to is what lets you correctly interpret its position in the ranking.
What the site offers beyond the ranking
The Markets page describes the particularities of the main YouTube territories, because a Brazilian, Japanese or Indian top is not read the same way. The Statistics page aggregates dominant channels, most represented categories and average view counts per country. The weekly report revisits the notable movements of the past seven days. And our blog publishes a daily analysis devoted to one specific video, its context, the reasons behind its breakthrough and what it says about how the platform is currently used.
