One Trailer Was the Oldest Entry in 36 Countries at Once

Marvel Entertainment

By the TrendTube editorial team, using YouTube Data API snapshots. Our methodology

Every day, for each of the 72 countries we track, we record which video has been on that chart the longest. Across 25 days that produces 1,800 observations of what we call the incumbent: not the most watched entry, but the one that has resisted longest. One video holds that position 241 times, in 36 different countries. The Avengers: Doomsday official trailer, released in mid-July for a film that opens on 18 December 2026, was the oldest surviving entry in half the world's charts, simultaneously, for most of a month. Its longest single run reached 26 days. By 19 August it has finally dropped out of every chart we monitor — which is what makes the period worth recording now rather than later.

Between 26 July and mid-August, this trailer was the longest-standing entry in charts as different as South Africa, Belgium, Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Finland, Ghana, Hong Kong and Hungary. Its record run of 26 days was matched in several of them at once. No other video in our dataset comes close: the second-placed incumbent, a football game reveal trailer, holds the position in 17 countries for 26 country-days in total, roughly a tenth as much.

The opposite strategy: 76 country-days in only eight countries

Warner Bros.

The Dune: Part Three trailer was the incumbent 76 times but in just eight countries, with a record run of 27 days — longer than the Avengers trailer's. It occupied Bulgaria, Slovakia and Uruguay for weeks while never becoming the reference point in the large markets. Two trailers from the same industry, released weeks apart, produced opposite footprints: one broad and shallow, one narrow and deep.

Marvel published a second piece for the same film four days ago, and it entered 49 charts immediately with an average rank of 4.6 — the widest reach in the current snapshot, and 29.8 million views. The studio did not wait for the first trailer to die; it replaced it. This is the mechanism that makes a single film occupy the incumbent position for two months without any individual video lasting that long.

Music holds the position differently

This music video was the incumbent in seven countries for 20 country-days, with a record of 26 days in Finland. It still charts in six countries — Denmark, Finland, Norway, New Zealand, Qatar and Singapore — 26 days after publication, at ranks between 27 and 44. Trailers dominate the incumbent position by volume; music videos hold it in specific markets for longer, because they do not depend on a release date to stay relevant.

DC

With the Avengers trailer gone, this DC trailer inherits the position in Bulgaria, Finland and Ghana, 27 days after publication and with 15.1 million views. It charts in nine countries, eight of which are among the slowest quarter of our panel. The incumbency has moved from a video that was everywhere to one that survives only where charts move slowly.

Reading incumbency over 25 days shows something a daily ranking cannot: film marketing does not compete for the top of these charts, it competes for their floor. A trailer rarely stays number one for more than 48 hours, but it can occupy places 20 to 45 for a month in dozens of countries at once, and that is where the 241 country-days come from. It also shows how the position is transferred. The Avengers trailer did not decline; it was retired and immediately replaced by a second piece that took 49 charts in a day. For a film opening in December, the studio has been holding the bottom half of the world's charts continuously since July, using two videos rather than one. That is a strategy the daily top ten never reveals, and it only becomes visible when the same measurement is repeated every day for a month.
